Taylor Has a Rich Heritage & Very Bright Future
Taylor’s fascinating history starts back with the original Tonkawa and Comanche Indians who lived in the area until the first European settlers arrived in the 1850s. In 1876 the International & Great Northern Railroad built through the area and established the community. It quickly became an agricultural hub, attracting Czech, German, and Swedish immigrants to become farmers. The city became known for its cotton production and was home to several gins and mills.
Into the early 1900s, Taylor developed a thriving business district, and other railroad lines came to town. Moderate growth continued and industry like the Taylor Bedding Company set up shop and grew the town even more. Moving into the 21st century the town became an even more attractive place for Central Texans to live, and in 2021 the city won the competition for the Samsung company to build a multi-billion-dollar semiconductor manufacturing plant in Taylor. The growth around that tech win has been fast and furious bringing more jobs, more income, more people, and more growth to the city. The future of Taylor, Texas looks very bright indeed!
